Dali-Swan-Elephant
1967 Bronze Sculpture, Edition: 5/6 11.43 x 20.32 cm x 13.97 cm)
Dali wanted to offer Air India (commissioned an ashtray signed
Dali for First Class) a "Swan-Elephant" in exchange for a living
elephant in order to celebrate the passage Hannibal's elephant,
Tsurus, through the Pyrenees. A passé qq nuits à Cointrin (Air
India Headquater) avant de continuer son voyage pour rejoindre
l'Espagne et la propriété du peintre, ce qui permit à Dali de
poser théâtralement juché sur son éléphanteau. Rumor has it
than as an exchange for his remarkable design, Dali asked for a
baby elephant as his fees and so the baby elephant was flown
from Bangalore to Geneva.
The ashtray is mostly unglazed porcelain with a
glazed serpent around the lip of the ashtray.
